Introduction to high carbon silicon

HOME > News
High-carbon silicon, also known as silicon-carbon alloy, is a new type of alloy used in converters. It can replace ferro silicon, silicon carbide, and carburizers, reduce the amount of deoxidizers, and be used in deoxidation alloying processes for converter smelting. The effect is stable and the chemical composition of the steel is , mechanical properties and internal control quality are superior to traditional technology.

production process:
High-carbon silicon, also known as silicon-carbon alloy, is a subsidiary product of metal silicon. Because the temperature close to the furnace bottom and furnace wall during the production of metal silicon cannot stably reach the original standard temperature for completely melting metal silicon, resulting in more and more Metal silicon that has not fully reacted was originally pasted on the bottom and wall of the furnace, so high-carbon silicon is produced.

How to use high carbon silicon:
Alloys for converters have not been adjusted for a long time, and the structure of traditional alloy varieties is relatively single, that is, Q195 and Q235 steel types adopt Mnsi+FeSi+SiAiCaBa+Sic+carburizer process, and HRB335 and HRB400 steel types use MnSi+Fesi+AiSi+increase Carbon agent production process. For traditional silicon-manganese alloys, ferro silicon resources are increasingly tight, and the market price is rising all the way, which makes the cost of converter steelmaking gradually increase and reduces the profit margin of steel products. Moreover, the recovery rate of traditional alloys is greatly affected by the operation of the converter. The final temperature and the amount of slag make the alloy composition in the finished product fluctuate greatly. As a result, the chemical composition of the smelted steel is unstable, and the qualified rate of the internal control indicators of the finished product is low.
With the advent of high-carbon silicon, more and more steel mills began to use high-carbon silicon. The general rated particle size is 10-100mm (90%) or 10-60mm (90%), and the rated content is two types: 1. Silicon: 65% minimum, Carbon: 15% minimum, 2. Silicon: 68% minimum, Carbon: 18% minimum. High-carbon silicon can be added to the bottom of the converter before the molten steel is poured into the converter to ensure more complete and rapid melting.
